Our Story
George Burn is an award-winning architectural designer, who works predominantly in the residential sector across the Kent/Surrey border in the United Kingdom. As managing director and head of architectural design, he specializes in the reconfiguration and extension of family homes, as well as new build houses.
Design work is carried out at both planning and building control stage, as we guide projects through tender, construction, and completion.
Over the last decade, George has worked at all levels of architectural design – from simple garage conversions to high-end new-build residences. All projects, no matter what their size, need the same ingredients for success: understanding clients’ needs and wants, recognition of any problems as first principles, and clear communication at all times.
“It feels like there is not much I haven’t encountered and worked through, but experience has taught me that every project is a new beginning, a new challenge, and ultimately, a new home.” – George Burn
Our Approach
As a practice that works through all stages of pre-and post-construction phases, we know that the fundamentals of Construction Design Management (CDM), planning constraints, utility supplies, ecology, arboriculture, conservation and budget, all play a vital part of an initial assessment, even before any design is marked upon a drawing. Identification of problems and constraints are vital so they can be converted into opportunities and a workable scheme.
This approach avoids unsuccessful or resubmission of lengthy planning applications. Why obtain planning for a scheme that ultimately you can’t afford? Why risk planning refusal due to a lack of specialist reports? Design is the solution to problems, not their creation.
Once planning is achieved, a detailed design process takes place in conjunction with experienced structural/civil engineers and other professional consultants, if required. Detail is essential to ensuring the success of a construction project. This can’t be emphasized enough; getting it right on paper first saves time, money, and any misunderstanding.
We will submit and manage both planning and building control applications, issue tenders to contractors, and manage queries from site. Legislation continues to increase for CDM, planning, and building control every year – it is our job to guide you through these processes.
